Frequently Asked Questions

A systematic transfer plan (STP) involves moving a fixed amount from one investment fund to another at regular intervals. This is commonly used to move money from lower-risk funds (e.g. money market) to higher-growth funds (e.g. equity) gradually, reducing the impact of market timing.
Gradual transfers help manage risk by averaging the purchase price of the destination fund over time (similar to naira-cost averaging). This approach avoids investing a lump sum at a potentially unfavourable time.
The source fund balance decreases each month by the transfer amount, while still earning returns on the remaining balance. If the monthly transfer exceeds the source balance, transfers stop.
Transfer charges depend on the fund manager and the specific products involved. Some Nigerian mutual funds allow free switches between funds under the same manager, while others may charge a switching fee. Check with your fund manager for specifics.
Not exactly. Systematic transfers move money in one direction over time, while rebalancing adjusts an entire portfolio back to target allocations. Both strategies aim to manage risk but work differently.
