What Is a Share Search?

A Global Search is a comprehensive search of all your shares across the Nigerian capital market. Conducted through the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS), it checks every brokerage firm and registrar to find shares registered in your name.

This is not a share transfer service. It is a discovery service that tells you exactly what shares you own and where they are held. Once you know what you have, you can decide whether to consolidate, sell, or simply keep track of your investments.

Why Are My Shares Missing?

In Nigeria, every investor in the capital market has their shares warehoused in the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS). However, over the years, shares can become difficult to locate for several reasons:

  • Address changes — If you moved without updating your contact details with your stockbroker or registrar, correspondence and dividends may have stopped reaching you.
  • Multiple brokers — You may have purchased shares through different stockbrokers over the years, each holding separate records.
  • Inherited shares — Shares received through inheritance may not have been formally transferred to your name.
  • Old physical certificates — Before dematerialisation, shares were tracked via paper certificates. Losing the certificate does not mean losing ownership — the registrar still has records.
  • Company mergers and name changes — Companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange may have changed names or merged, making it harder to recognise your holdings.

The good news: non-receipt, misplacement, or damage of physical share certificates does not invalidate your ownership. Your records exist with the registrars and can be recovered through a Global Search.

How It Works

Step 1. Provide Your Details

Enter your full name, date of birth, and contact details as they may appear in broker records.

Step 2. Add Your Address History

Provide at least 3 years of address history. We recommend covering 10 years for the most thorough search.

Step 3. Complete KYC Verification

Upload your identity documents so registrars can verify your ownership claims.

Step 4. Pay & Submit

Pay the one-time service fee and sign the authorisation form. We handle the rest.
