Dangote Refinery Ticker Symbol and IPO Questions Answered
The NGX ticker for Dangote Refinery is published by the exchange when the shares list. How new tickers are announced, where to confirm one, and answers to the most searched questions about the IPO.
The ticker symbol for Dangote Refinery shares is assigned and published by the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) when the shares list on its Main Board. Until the exchange publishes its listing notice, any symbol quoted online is unofficial. The offer itself, 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 each, is open from 14 September to 13 October 2026, and the shares do not trade under any ticker during that period.

What an NGX Ticker Is
A ticker is the short code that identifies a listed security on the exchange. On the NGX it is a run of capital letters based on the company name, such as DANGCEM for Dangote Cement or FIRSTHOLDCO for First HoldCo Plc. Brokers use it to route orders, and it is the code shown on price lists, trading platforms and contract notes.
A ticker is not the same as the company name and cannot be worked out from it reliably. Several listed companies in one group can have similar names and quite different codes. An order placed under the wrong code buys a different company.
How a New Listing Gets Its Ticker
- The offer closes, allotment is cleared and allotted shares are credited to CSCS accounts.
- The NGX approves the listing and assigns a trading symbol to the new security.
- The exchange publishes a listing notice stating the name of the security, the symbol, the number of shares admitted, the listing price and the date trading begins.
- From that date the security appears on the NGX Daily Official List and on broker platforms under that symbol.
Where to Confirm the Ticker

- The listing notice published by the NGX, on ngxgroup.com
- The NGX Daily Official List, the end-of-day record of every listed equity, from the first day of trading
- The equities price list on the NGX website
- Your broker's trading platform, which takes its list of securities from the exchange
- Your CSCS statement, which shows the holding under the name the CSCS uses for the security
Why Unofficial Posts Are Not Enough
- A symbol can be guessed and repeated widely before the exchange has assigned one.
- Dangote Cement and Dangote Sugar Refinery are already listed on the NGX under their own tickers. Dangote Sugar Refinery is a different company from Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE, and the word "refinery" in both names is an easy source of mix-ups.
- Fake apps and websites use an invented ticker to look credible.
- A broker will only accept an order in a security that exists on the exchange, so the official symbol is the only one that matters in practice.
Before placing any order after listing, check three things on the order screen: the ticker, the full company name and the market (NGX Main Board). If any of the three does not match the NGX listing notice, stop and ask your broker.
The offer is open until 13 October 2026. Check whether you can apply and what your shares would cost.
Check if You Can ApplyFrequently Asked Questions
What is the Dangote Refinery ticker symbol on the NGX?
It is published by the NGX in its listing notice when the shares are admitted to trade. This article does not state a symbol because the published offer terms do not give one. Confirm it on the NGX website or with your broker at listing.
How much is one Dangote Refinery share?
₦525 in the public offer. After listing, the price is the market price on the NGX, which can be above or below the offer price.
What is the minimum I can invest?
10 shares, which costs ₦5,250. Above that, applications go up in multiples of 10 shares, so 20 shares cost ₦10,500 and 100 shares cost ₦52,500.
When does the offer open and close?
It opened on 14 September 2026 and closes on 13 October 2026. Brokers usually set their own cut-off a few days before the official close.
Who can apply for the Dangote Refinery IPO?
Anyone who can meet a licensed broker's requirements: a BVN, a NIN, a Nigerian bank account in their own name and a CSCS account, which the broker opens if needed. That covers Nigerians at home, Nigerians abroad who have those details, and usually foreign nationals resident in Nigeria who have a BVN and a Nigerian bank account.
Can Nigerians living abroad apply?
Yes, with a BVN and a Nigerian bank account. Nigerians abroad who do not have a BVN can apply online for a Non-Resident BVN on the NIBSS portal at nibss-plc.com.ng/nrbvn using a Nigerian passport, then open and fund a Nigerian bank account in naira.
Can foreign nationals outside Nigeria apply?
Generally not through a retail broker. The Non-Resident BVN is checked against a Nigerian passport, and without a BVN a retail broker cannot open the CSCS account an application needs. Non-Nigerian investors normally reach Nigerian shares through a custodian bank, a route mainly used by institutions.
What documents and details do I need?
Your BVN, your NIN, the details of a Nigerian bank account in your own name, and a CSCS account number and CHN. A broker opening a new account will also carry out its usual identity and address checks.
Can I apply through an app?
Yes, where the app routes the application through a licensed stockbroker or a receiving agent named in the prospectus. Ask the app which firm lodges the application and verify that firm on the SEC Nigeria and NGX websites. No list of approved apps is given here; the prospectus and ipo.dangote.com are the authority.
Will I get all the shares I apply for?
Not necessarily. If valid applications exceed the shares on offer, applications are scaled back under a basis of allotment cleared by the SEC, and you receive fewer shares than you applied for.
How do refunds work?
Money for shares you applied for but were not allotted is returned by electronic transfer to the bank account on your application, at ₦525 for each unallotted share. The prospectus sets out the timing.
Where will Dangote Refinery shares trade?
On the Main Board of the Nigerian Exchange in Lagos, in naira, during NGX trading hours of 9:00 to 16:00 WAT, with trades settling on T+1. Listings on other exchanges have been discussed publicly, but the SEC-approved offer lists on the NGX and the prospectus is the only reliable source on anything further.
