Frequently Asked Questions

Inflation increases the cost of goods and services over time. A monthly expense of ₦300,000 today could cost significantly more by the time you retire. Your retirement corpus must be large enough to cover these inflated expenses throughout retirement.
It depends on the time horizon and economic outlook. Nigeria has experienced inflation rates ranging from 10% to 35% in recent years. Using multiple scenarios (e.g. low, medium, high) provides a more realistic range of outcomes. This calculator does not recommend any specific inflation assumption.
The real value is the purchasing power of your pension in today's terms. A corpus of ₦50 million in 30 years may only buy what ₦5 million buys today if inflation averages 8% per year. This calculator helps illustrate that gap.
The gap between your nominal and real corpus shows how much purchasing power is lost. To maintain purchasing power, your investment returns must exceed inflation. This calculator lets you vary rates to explore different scenarios.
The nominal corpus is the raw number — the actual balance you see. The real corpus is that balance adjusted for inflation, showing what it can actually buy in today's terms. The difference represents purchasing power erosion.
