Nigerians in Australia investing in Nigerian stocks

Australia has a growing Nigerian community, with Nigerians in cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane working in healthcare, engineering, finance, and education. Many maintain strong ties to Nigeria and want to build long-term financial assets in the country. Shares Saver provides a regulated route to own NGX-listed shares registered directly in your name — managed entirely from Australia.

Funding from Australia: use your Nigerian bank account

Australian bank accounts (AUD) cannot be used to fund Shares Saver directly. You will need your Nigerian bank account. Many Nigerians in Australia use international money transfer services to convert AUD to NGN and send to their Nigerian account, then fund from there.

AUD to Nigerian Naira exchange

Nigerian shares are priced in Naira (₦). Exchange rates between AUD and NGN fluctuate. Factor currency movement into your long-term investment plan.

Australian tax considerations (ATO)

Australian residents are taxed by the ATO on worldwide income. Foreign investment income and dividends from Nigerian shares may be assessable in Australia. Capital Gains Tax (CGT) may also apply when shares are sold. Consult a registered Australian tax agent or accountant before investing.
