🇩🇪 Diaspora Investing · Germany
Nigerians living in Germany — in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich or anywhere across the country — can buy and own NGX-listed shares directly in their own name through Shares Saver. Holdings are registered through regulated Nigerian stockbroker partners — not held in a pooled or nominee structure.
Shares Saver is currently only available to Nigerian citizens. Non-Nigerians cannot invest at this time.
A valid BVN (Bank Verification Number) is required. Your BVN links your identity to Nigeria's banking system.
You must fund your account through a Nigerian bank account. German bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used for funding.
Germany is home to one of the largest Nigerian communities in continental Europe. Many Nigerian professionals, students, and entrepreneurs living in Germany continue to maintain deep financial ties to Nigeria — supporting family businesses, planning eventual return, or simply wanting to participate in Nigeria's economic growth. Direct share ownership offers a formal, regulated way to build that stake.
Owning shares in NGX-listed companies — banks, telecoms, consumer goods and more — lets you participate in Nigerian economic growth from your base in Germany.
Unlike collective investment funds, your Shares Saver holdings are registered directly in your legal name with the Nigerian registrar. You own specific shares in specific companies.
Shares Saver is built for monthly, incremental investing — aligned with how most diaspora Nigerians prefer to grow their Nigerian portfolio gradually over time.
Register at sharessaver.com or via the app. No Nigerian bank account needed to begin.
Upload a valid government-issued ID (Nigerian international passport is accepted) to satisfy Nigerian KYC requirements. Completed entirely online.
Browse Shares Saver's available company profiles and select the stocks you want. Companies span banking, telecoms, oil and gas, consumer goods, and more.
Choose a monthly amount. Shares Saver is designed for gradual, long-term investing — not active trading. Small regular amounts compound over time.
Use available payment options to fund your account from Germany. Contact support for current EUR payment guidance.
Shares Saver instructs a regulated Nigerian stockbroker to execute the purchase. Your shares are registered in your legal name with the relevant Nigerian registrar.
German bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used to fund your Shares Saver account directly. You will need an active Nigerian bank account. Many Nigerians in Germany use remittance services to move EUR to their Nigerian naira account, then fund their Shares Saver account from there. Nigerian shares are priced in Naira (₦) on the NGX.
German residents are taxed on worldwide income. Investment income from foreign shares — including Nigerian stocks — may be subject to German Abgeltungsteuer (capital gains withholding tax) and reporting requirements via your annual Steuererklärung (tax return). Dividends received from Nigerian companies may also be taxable. Consult a Steuerberater (German tax adviser) for personalised guidance.
Shares Saver requires identity verification to comply with Nigerian regulatory requirements. A valid Nigerian international passport or another acceptable government-issued ID is sufficient. The process is completed digitally within the app — you do not need to attend a physical location.
Your shares are registered in your own name with the relevant Nigerian registrar. This record is separate from the Shares Saver platform. Even if Shares Saver were unavailable, your registered ownership would remain intact and could be accessed through the relevant broker or registrar.
