Buy Nigerian Shares from Spain

Nigerian citizens living in Spain — in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or anywhere across the country — can buy and own NGX-listed shares directly in their own name through Shares Saver. A valid BVN and Nigerian bank account are required.

Who can invest — eligibility requirements

Only Nigerian citizens are currently eligible to invest through Shares Saver.

🏦BVN required

A valid BVN (Bank Verification Number) is required to open an account.

💳Nigerian bank account required

Spanish bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used for funding. A Nigerian bank account is required.

Nigerians in Spain investing in Nigerian stocks

Spain has a significant and growing Nigerian community, with Nigerians working across sectors including healthcare, construction, education, and services. Many maintain strong ties to Nigeria. Shares Saver offers a way to build a formal stake in Nigerian companies from Spain, with your shares registered directly in your legal name.

Funding from Spain: use your Nigerian bank account

Spanish bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used to fund Shares Saver. You will need to use your Nigerian bank account. Many Nigerians in Spain use remittance services to transfer EUR to naira first, then fund their account.

Spanish tax considerations

Spanish residents are taxed on worldwide income. Foreign assets and income from Nigerian shares may need to be declared to the Agencia Tributaria. Spain also has a model 720 obligation for foreign assets over certain thresholds. Consult a Spanish asesor fiscal before investing.

Can I buy Nigerian shares while living in Spain?

Yes — but only Nigerian citizens are currently eligible. If you are a Nigerian citizen living in Spain, you can buy shares listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) through Shares Saver, provided you have a valid BVN and an active Nigerian bank account.

Is a BVN required to invest from Spain?

Yes. A BVN (Bank Verification Number) is required. Your BVN links your identity to Nigeria's banking system and must be provided during onboarding.

Do I need a Nigerian bank account to invest from Spain?

Yes. A Nigerian bank account is required. Spanish bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used to fund your Shares Saver account. Many Nigerians in Spain use remittance services to transfer EUR to their Nigerian naira account, then fund from there.

Are there Spanish tax obligations on Nigerian share investments?

Shares Saver does not provide tax advice. Spanish residents may have obligations to declare foreign assets and income to the Agencia Tributaria (Spanish Tax Agency). Consult a Spanish asesor fiscal (tax adviser) before investing.

Are my shares in my own name even though I live in Spain?

Yes. Shares are registered in your legal name with the relevant Nigerian registrar, regardless of your Spanish residency. Your ownership is independent of the Shares Saver platform.
