Buy Nigerian Shares from Italy

Nigerian citizens living in Italy — in Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin or anywhere across the country — can buy and own NGX-listed shares directly in their own name through Shares Saver. A valid BVN and Nigerian bank account are required.

How It Works

Who can invest — eligibility requirements

🇳🇬Nigerian citizens only

Shares Saver is currently only available to Nigerian citizens.

🏦BVN required

A valid BVN (Bank Verification Number) is required to open an account and invest.

💳Nigerian bank account required

Italian bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used for funding. A Nigerian bank account is required.

Nigerians in Italy investing in Nigerian stocks

Italy has one of the largest Nigerian communities in continental Europe, with significant populations in cities like Rome, Milan, and Turin. Many Nigerians in Italy maintain strong ties to family and business interests in Nigeria. Owning NGX-listed shares is one way to build a formal, regulated financial stake in Nigeria from your base in Italy.

Direct ownership in your name

Your shares are registered in your legal name with the Nigerian registrar — not in a pool or nominee account. You own specific shares in specific companies.

Long-term wealth building

Shares Saver is designed for monthly, incremental investing — not short-term trading. Small regular contributions compound over time.

Managed entirely from Italy

Everything from onboarding to portfolio management is done through the Shares Saver app. No need to travel to Nigeria.

What Italy-based investors should know

Funding from Italy: use your Nigerian bank account

Italian bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used to fund Shares Saver directly. You will need to fund through your Nigerian bank account. Many Nigerians in Italy use remittance services to transfer EUR to their Nigerian naira account first.

Italian tax considerations

Italian residents are taxed on worldwide income. Foreign share investments and dividends from Nigeria may be subject to Italian capital gains tax (imposta sui capital gains) and income reporting via the Dichiarazione dei Redditi. Shares Saver does not provide tax advice — consult a qualified Italian commercialista before investing.

Important disclaimer

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Nigerian shares while living in Italy?

Yes — but only Nigerian citizens are currently eligible. If you are a Nigerian citizen living in Italy, you can buy shares listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) through Shares Saver, provided you have a valid BVN and an active Nigerian bank account.

Is a BVN required to invest from Italy?

Yes. A BVN (Bank Verification Number) is required. Your BVN links your identity to Nigeria's banking system and must be provided during onboarding.

Do I need a Nigerian bank account to invest from Italy?

Yes. A Nigerian bank account is required. Italian bank accounts (EUR) cannot be used to fund your Shares Saver account. Many Nigerians in Italy use remittance services to send EUR to their Nigerian naira account, then fund from there.

Are there Italian tax obligations on Nigerian share investments?

Shares Saver does not provide tax advice. Italian residents may have reporting obligations to the Agenzia delle Entrate for foreign income and assets. Consult a qualified Italian commercialista (tax adviser) before investing.

Are my shares registered in my name even though I live in Italy?

Yes. Shares are registered in your legal name with the relevant Nigerian registrar — regardless of your Italian residency. Your ownership record is independent of the Shares Saver platform.
